In a strategic move to improve road safety and security across the Lekki Peninsula, the Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA) has paid a courtesy visit to the Zonal Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in charge of Lagos and Ogun states, Assistant Corps Marshal Matthew Olonisaye.
The visit, which served as a formal congratulatory welcome to the new Zonal Commander, also provided a platform for LERSA to present critical road infrastructure and security concerns affecting residents and motorists on the busy corridor.
Leading the LERSA delegation was the Association's President, Alhaji Sulyman Bello, alongside the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mrs. Tina Martins; General Secretary, Mrs. Oluyemisi Ladi-Sanni; Chairman of LERSA Security Committee, Hon. Prince Adewale Taorid Ojora; Chairman of LERSA Stakeholders Engagement Committee, Mrs. Ibiye Ekong; Chairman of the LERSA Transportation Committee, Mr. Femi Oke; and Secretary of the Transportation Committee, Mrs. Jennifer Olorunsola — as well as chairpersons and representatives of estate residents' associations, including Mr. Jonathan Odega (Chairman, Peninsula Garden Estate); Engr. Adeola Adeboye (Vice Chairman, Thomas Estate); and Alhaji Rashid Popoola and Mr. Charles Ikoabasi, both members of the LERSA Transportation Committee.
In his opening remarks, Alhaji Sulyman Bello emphasized that the engagement was not merely to highlight challenges but to strengthen collaboration between residents and the FRSC for a more effective and sustainable solution system.
Mr. Femi Oke, Chairman of the Transportation Committee, delivered a detailed presentation outlining key intervention areas needed, including:
· Provision of patrol vehicles and patrol motorcycles
· Use of speed monitoring devices
· Enhanced night operations
· 24/7 monitoring of the Ibeju Link Bridge
· Training for first responders
· Strict speed limit enforcement
· Dedicated ambulances for emergency response
Mrs. Jennifer Olorunsola, Secretary of the Transportation Committee, further supported the presentation with data from the first-quarter report on road incidents along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
Commending LERSA for the strategic engagement, Assistant Corps Marshal Matthew Olonisaye affirmed that the FRSC's doors remain open for collaboration and partnership. He assured the delegation of the command's commitment to working with community stakeholders to enhance road safety and reduce crashes in the zone.
Both parties agreed to establish a joint technical working group to fast-track the implementation of the proposed interventions.
