LERSA Flags Off Free Fire Safety Training and Tree Planting Initiative

The Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA), through its Environment Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, today launched the Free Fire Safety Training and Urban Tree Planting Initiative at Diamond Estate, Monastery Road, Sangotedo.

This dual-purpose initiative is designed to empower residents with practical fire emergency response skills while promoting environmental sustainability through strategic tree planting in urban communities.

Delivering his remarks, LERSA President, Alhaji Chief Sulyman Bello, emphasized the critical need for grassroots emergency preparedness. “Equipping residents with basic fire response knowledge is a crucial step toward minimizing the risk and impact of fire outbreaks in our communities,”

The training and tree planting exercise was jointly led by Dr. Lasisi Adedoyin, from the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, and Mrs. Ronke Abisola Akinsete, Chairman of the LERSA Environment Committee. Participants received hands-on demonstrations on tackling various types of fire incidents using first responder techniques, alongside guidance on sustainable urban greening practices.

Mrs. Akinsete noted that this was the first event of its kind along the Lekki corridor, with the initiative set to continue in other estates over the next two months. She also commended and appreciated the active participation of residents, stakeholders, and partner agencies for making the kickoff event a success.

In recognition of community engagement, a Certificate of Participation was presented to Mr. Stanley Iringe-Koko, Chairman of Diamond Estate, by Sir Alex Nwajei, LERSA Board of Trustees member, who praised LERSA and the Ministry for their proactive approach to safety and environmental responsibility.

LERSA remains committed to fostering safer, greener, and more resilient communities through continuous engagement, capacity building, and collaborative action.
