LERSA ENGAGEMENT MEETING WITH MAJORITY LEADER –LSHA: HON. NOHEEM ADAMS AND THE COMMISSIONER, MINISTRY OF YOUTH & SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
On Tuesday, July 2nd 2024, the Lagos State House of Assembly hosted the Leadership of Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA) for a productive engagement session.
Led by its President Alhaji Sulyman Bello the LERSA delegation met with the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly and Hon. Member Representing Eti-Osa Constituency 1, Hon. Noheem Babatunde Adams, to review critical infrastructure and community issues on the Lekki Peninsula.
Key Discussion Points
1. Pedestrian Safety on Lekki-Epe Expressway: Addressing the rising number of hit-and-run accidents, with plans for pedestrian bridges.
2. Completion of Key Roads: Updates on the Regional Road and Saliu Obodo Road projects.
3. Management of Heavy Truck Traffic: Addressing the increase in heavy trucks due to the area's development and the need for efficient heavy-duty towing infrastructures / services.
4. Healthcare Improvements: Updates on the Eti-Osa General Hospital project and the need for enhanced government support for the Eti-Osa Mother and Child Center.
5. Transportation: Operations at the Ajah BRT Terminus.
6. Public Health / Safety: Regulation of dangerous pesticides and restrictions on their distribution in order to mitigate widespread abuses.
7. Traffic Management: The possibility of adjusting some of the intersections for enhanced operational efficiency of FRSC officials.
Hon. Noheem Adams welcomed the delegation and acknowledged the ongoing fruitful collaboration between LERSA and the State. Meeting discussed exhaustively all issues raised. The Majority Leader assured that all the subjects raised would be addressed diligently, promising good results for the residents and stakeholders of the Lekki Peninsula.
ENGAGEMENT WITH THE HON. COMMISSIONER FOR YOUTH AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
The Hon. Majority Leader also facilitated the meeting between LERSA delegation and Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development. This meeting focused on the pressing issue of child and adult beggars, as well as other delinquencies in the Lekki Corridor, which are increasingly linked to drug proliferation/abuse and cultism, posing significant security and environmental challenges.
Meeting was unanimous about the required urgency of addressing this raging menace.
In response, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende dissected the multiple angles to the problem while also expressing gratitude for the engagement and indicated that plans are underway to resolve these issues; with intervention programmes/updates to be exchanged with the LERSA Leadership on a scheduled date.
