LERSA Leadership Team Strengthens Security Collaboration with Zone 2 Police Command
Lagos, June 26, 2024 – Despite the rainy weather, the Leadership Team of the Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA) embarked on a significant working visit to the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police for Zone 2, covering Lagos and Ogun State Commands. The team was warmly welcomed by the AIG, Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi B.Sc, LLB, B.L, LLM, in his office.
The visit, led by the Chairman of LERSA's Security Committee, Prince Adewale Taorid Ojora, began with an introduction of the Association and its President, Alhaji Sulyman Bello, along with the accompanying team members. Prince Ojora outlined LERSA's ongoing initiatives aimed at bolstering the security of the Eti-Osa / Lekki-Epe axis. He emphasized the Association's goal to collaborate with all law enforcement agencies to develop a comprehensive security blueprint for the entire Lekki Peninsula. A pivotal component of this plan is to convene a well-resourced Security Summit involving all stakeholders for thorough discussions and strategic planning.
President Bello highlighted LERSA's impactful contributions to local security, which include:
1. Donation of a Toyota Hilux Pickup Van: Provided to the Police Area J Command to enhance their operational capabilities.
2. Construction of a New Office Block: Erected for the Ajah Police Division in the aftermath of the End-SARS protests, providing a much-needed facility for the local police force.
3. Ongoing Construction of an Overnight Shelter: A 6-bedroom facility with two units of bath/toilet and kitchen is being built at the Ogombo Police Division to offer temporary accommodation for officers.
4. Annual Recognition Awards: Instituted to honor police officers who have demonstrated outstanding service on the Lekki Peninsula.
The LERSA delegation underscored the importance of their visit, aiming to establish a strong working relationship with the AIG’s Zonal Command. This collaboration is crucial for ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of security measures across the axis.
In his response, AIG Durosinmi expressed profound appreciation for the visit and the proactive steps taken by LERSA. He acknowledged the critical role of collaborative efforts in achieving optimal security, given the limited resources available to the government. The AIG advocated for the integration of technology, such as electronic surveillance systems, to enhance security measures. He also stressed the importance of community involvement as the best source of security intelligence and pledged his command's full cooperation in supporting LERSA's initiatives.
