The Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA) today paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters.
The visit was aimed at formally welcoming the new Commissioner of Police and reinforcing the longstanding partnership between LERSA and the Lagos State Police Command in promoting safety and security across the Lekki Peninsula.
Speaking during the visit, the President of LERSA, Alhaji (Chief) Sulyman Bello, expressed the Association's appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices of officers of the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining peace and order within the Lekki corridor. He noted that the visit was not only to welcome the new Commissioner but also to reaffirm LERSA's commitment to working closely with the Police Command to address emerging security concerns and improve the safety of residents.
The Chairman of the LERSA Security Committee, Prince Adewale Taorid Ojora, briefed the Commissioner on the Association's ongoing security initiatives. He disclosed that the Committee is developing a comprehensive security blueprint for the Lekki Peninsula to strengthen coordination among stakeholders, improve emergency response, and support intelligence-driven community policing. He also outlined several initiatives currently being implemented by the Association to enhance safety and security within the Lekki community.
During the interactive session, the estate chairmen in the LERSA delegation highlighted several issues requiring sustained collaboration with the Police Command. These included the renovation of police posts and the deployment of officers back to those facilities, concerns over the use of police officers in civil disputes involving estate executives, the activities of street urchins across the Lekki Peninsula, the need for police officers to properly identify themselves when approaching gated estates, and continued efforts towards the removal of shanties that pose security risks.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, warmly welcomed the LERSA delegation and commended the Association for its proactive and collaborative approach to community security. He assured the delegation of the Lagos State Police Command's commitment to partnering with LERSA and pledged continued support for initiatives that promote peace, law, and order. The Commissioner further emphasized that his office would always remain open to constructive engagement with the Association.
The visit concluded with a shared commitment by both LERSA and the Lagos State Police Command to deepen collaboration, maintain regular communication, and work together towards building a safer and more secure Lekki Peninsula.
