The Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA) today held a strategic engagement with the management team of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) to address persistent power supply challenges affecting communities across the Lekki corridor.
The engagement, convened by LERSA, brought together representatives of the residents' association and senior officials of EKEDC to openly discuss issues impacting electricity distribution and identify practical solutions aimed at improving power supply for residents and businesses within the corridor. In attendance were the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Noheem Babatunde Adams; the Vice Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government, Hon. Idowu Badru; the Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of EKEDC, Ms. Sherifat Adegbenro; the Deputy Managing Director of EKEDC, Mr. Jerome Olumide; the Baale of Alasia Town, High Chief Mustapha Okunmoyinbo; the Baale of Inupa Town, High Chief Jelili Giwa; LERSA Vice President, Pastor Odozimba Uche Iheakanwa; Chairman of the LERSA Communications Committee, Mr. Yomi Benson; alongside members of the LERSA Executive Council, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
Speaking during the engagement, the President of LERSA, Alhaji Chief Sulyman Bello, said the meeting was deliberately focused on finding lasting solutions to the electricity challenges confronting communities in the axis.
"Our objective is to work collaboratively with EKEDC and relevant stakeholders to ensure improved electricity availability across our communities. Reliable power supply is critical to economic growth, security, and the overall quality of life of residents," he stated.
During the meeting, communities identified as experiencing significant electricity supply challenges included Joseph Avenue and Mohammed Yinka Bello Crescent in Onigbongbo Town, Monastery road, (Sangotedo), Southern Estate Lakowe Phase II and surrounding communities, Gbetu Community in Ibeju-Lekki, Sea Side Estate in Ajah, Ilasan and its environs, and Orchid Road.
The discussions covered a broad range of electricity-related issues, including load shedding, energising of completed transformers, transformer replacement, prolonged power outages, estimated billing, and the upgrade and repair of faulty feeders.
The Vice Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government, Hon. Idowu Badru, commended LERSA for facilitating the engagement and pledged the support of the Local Government in working with EKEDC and other stakeholders to improve electricity infrastructure and service delivery across the corridor.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Noheem Babatunde Adams, applauded both LERSA and the EKEDC management for initiating the dialogue, describing it as a timely intervention for residents.
He noted that the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development and the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources provides an additional avenue through which support can be mobilised for electricity and other infrastructure projects, particularly within developing and rural communities.
Responding on behalf of EKEDC, the Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Sherifat Adegbenro, acknowledged the concerns and requests presented by the various communities. She assured stakeholders that EKEDC remains committed to addressing the identified challenges and will continue to work towards achieving a satisfactory level of service delivery across the affected areas.
